The port of Sibenik is
located in northern Dalmatia, near to the River Krka estuary in
the Bay of Sibenik. The city almost forms an amphitheatre, with
its buildings spread over the hills surrounding the natural
harbour. The modern area in the north and south east provides a
total contrast to the steep, narrow alleyways of the old town in
the west and the ancient fortresses of St. Anne, St. John and
Subicevac which overlook it. Sibenik has a rich cultural and
historical heritage and attracts many visitors, both to the town
as well as to the natural beauty of the region. The area enjoys
a mild climate with around 2750 hours of sunshine a year. Water
sports include yachting and rowing and several diving clubs
organize diving courses and underwater photo-safaris in what
must be one of the most attractive areas on the Croatian
Adriatic.
