The port of Rab is
located on the west coast of the island of the same name in the
northern Adriatic Sea, between Krk Island and Pag Island. Rab
has mild winters and hot summers and is considered to be one of
the sunniest towns in Europe. Summer visitors enjoy a special
atmosphere as the town centre is transformed into one enormous
art gallery full of street painters as well as other cultural
events in the "Knezev dvor" Gallery. Rab musical evenings from
June to August offer concerts by Croatian and international
musicians. Another colourful summer event is the Rab Tournament
which first took place as early as 1364 and was revived in 1995.
It commemorates the defence of Rab by medieval knights. Rab’s
recorded history dates back as far as 360 BC. Tourism has long
replaced fishing, once the economic mainstay. The island is also
credited with pioneering nudism.
